But wait, there's more.
This one is called "Restructured Circles #2," which of course means it's another member of my "Restructured Circles" series. I have to say that I really love this piece. It's not heavily pieces, but it didn't need to be. It started out, as all of the pieces in this series will, as a whole cloth. It was then cut up and reassembled. In this case nothing happened to it after the reassembly other than quilting. The quilting is closely spaced echos following the general shape of the circular forms.
I'm pleased with the line quality and the feeling of the brush strokes, some of which I applied directly to the cloth and others indirectly through a silk screen. I also got where I wanted to be in terms of value and balance.

Hi Russ,
I really like your new work. Are you painting with thickened dyes or with paint?
Thanks Diane. I use both thickened dye and paint depending on the project and my mood. They produce such different results. I find it useful to have both at hand. I love the fact that dye can be discharged. Paint on the other hand can be either completely heat set or only lightly or partially set, which allows it to partially wash out. So many options.
Thanks for the additional info. So much to try!
Hi Russ,
Congratulations on the finishes. It is so satisfying. I am enjoying seeing you continue the series you were working on last year in Layers Upon Layers. The colors in this one are ethereal!
Thanks Carol. I appreciate the feedback and I'm delighted that you like this piece and the direction that I'm headed. These restructured circles are the focus that I've been looking for. There are more on the way. I've looked back at the samples that I made during "Layers" and I'm only now starting to make sense of what they mean and what comes next. They needed to set for a while and I needed some distance. I think I'm heading toward an intersection of the experiments with mixed fibers and the circles.
Thanks again for a great week of discharge. I'm doing a lot more and getting lots of practice. I'm getting ready for a 2-day craft show in Dec., my first.
